Jared is a good friend of the Grimskald team and part of our playtesters and opted for the monied up Copperbrows as his crew.
Jared: I've always been a big fan of horror in general, so I think the part of Torch and Shield that resonated with me the most was the constant feeling of dread that something was always baying for you from just outside your candlelight.
The light/darkness mechanic gave a great sense of impending doom to the game, and every choice felt like i was running against the clock (that's a feeling I've grown to love in a lot of my favourite horror mediums).
Given our use of real light sources (like battery powered lanterns) during the game, it also opened up some interesting modelling opportunities. I used glow-in-the-dark resin pieces on the bases, which give the models an eerie blue glow when the lights go down.. presumably moments before one of my dudes gets plucked away by the darkness.
